  1. 5:00 pm

    Meet and set up

    Meet in the Meatpacking District and set up your camera for photographing people on the street.

  2. 5:15 pm

    Posing and expression

    Work with the model in natural light, and learn to direct poses and expressions so people look relaxed instead of stiff.

  3. 5:30 pm

    Golden hour

    Low, warm sun until sunset at 6:12, the best natural light of the day.

  4. 6:12 pm

    Blue hour, then flash

    As the sky turns deep blue, add flash and balance it with the last of the daylight.

  5. 6:40 pm

    Night and city lights

    Light the model with flash while the city turns into bokeh behind them.

  6. Before 8 pm

    Your portrait

    Tony takes a portrait of you, if you want one, and answers your questions.

Questions

Is it right for my skill level?

Yes. All skill levels are welcome. With two instructors for up to 10 photographers, you get help with your own camera at every setup.

What should I bring?

A camera and your favorite portrait lens, a charged battery, an empty memory card and a warm layer. It cools off quickly after sunset.

Where exactly do we meet?

In the Meatpacking District in Manhattan. Tony emails the exact meeting spot and a map the day before.

What if it rains?

If we have to call it off for weather, you can switch to a later date or get a full refund.

Can I bring a friend?

Yes, if there’s room. Set the quantity to 2 when you book. Each photographer needs a spot.

Will Tony really take my portrait?

Yes, if you want one. It’s part of the evening.
